Description:
It’s time again for the 5 week DPD Ironman Challenge Event. For anyone who hasn’t participated in the Ironman Challenge in the past – it is a physical challenge where an individual (or Team of 2 to 4) has 5 weeks to complete an Ironman
Triathlon.
Hopefully all questions will be answered below or on the website.
This year’s Ironman challenge will run from March 28st to April 29th (5 weeks).
We decided on a later start date hoping the weather will cooperate and we will be able to do most of the running and biking outside, yet tried to make it early enough in the year that people aren’t too busy with other family obligations and vacations.
The event will consist of the following to be completed throughout the 5 week period:
Swim or Row – Swim 2.4 miles (4,500 meters) OR Row 15,000 meters,
or a combination of the 2 for 15,000 meters. The row distance has been changed this year for several reasons – Swimming 4,500 meters is one of the most taxing events in an Ironman and rowing the same distance does not come close to equaling
that event, and because most people were completing this portion in one or two sittings and we want to have the participants challenge themselves.
Bike - Bike 112 miles - Self-explanatory. If the weather’s nice enough I know there are several people on the department who enjoy mountain Biking – send out an email and have people meet
at Sunderbruch or Scott Co Park. Another option is to join a spin class
Run – Run/Walk 26.2 miles. This can be done inside, outside, on a track, treadmill, elliptical, etc…
** Logging Distances - You will receive your
PERSONAL spreadsheet to keep track of your daily distances and there will be a
COMMUNITY spread sheet on line to log your weekly activity to be eligible for weekly prizes.
Weekly Prizes – We will again have weekly prizes.
Everyone who has entered their weekly activity on the COMMUNITY spread sheet will be eligible for the drawing. The drawings will be held on Fridays with the first being Friday April 1st.
Cost – The cost will be
$25 per person which will cover this year’s shirt and part will go toward raffle prizes. Make payments to DPD Ironman or paying in cash works too.
Eligible Persons – Any DPD/Modern Woodmen employee, family, friends, etc… (Basically everyone is welcome to join)
** Shirts – This year’s shirts will be black long sleeve ¼ zip shirts in both Men’s and Women’s styles. They are $25 a piece for additional shirts.
Optional Short sleeve and Price ($15)
** Teams – You can put together a team
(up to 4 people) and have a different person do each event –
still $25 per person. Just sign everyone up individually and log your own progress on the spreadsheet.
